128GB or 256GB? How to choose your phone storage
The right storage capacity depends on what you keep on your phone. Someone who streams music and keeps a small photo library has a different starting point from someone who films family events, installs large games and downloads programmes for every journey. Start with your own usage before paying for a larger number.
Check what you already use
On an iPhone, open Settings, then General, then iPhone Storage. You can see the space used by apps and their content. On other phones, search Settings for Storage; the menu location varies by model. Note your total usage and the largest categories before removing anything.

Plan around your habits
Photos and video: do you keep your full library on the device or regularly organise it elsewhere?
Entertainment: do you stream most of the time, or download films, music and maps for offline use?
Apps: do a few essentials cover your needs, or do you keep several large games?
Time: how long do you expect to use the next phone, and how much has your library grown recently?
As a practical comparison, if you are already using around 110GB and regularly making room, another 128GB phone may leave you facing the same decisions. If you use around 45GB and your habits are steady, compare the extra cost of 256GB with other priorities. These are examples to help you think, not guaranteed capacity recommendations.
Cloud space and phone space are different
Buying more iCloud storage does not increase the physical storage inside an iPhone. Cloud services can help manage content, but local apps and downloaded files still need device space. Check how your chosen service handles offline access and sync before relying on it for everything.

Leave room for change
Avoid choosing a capacity that only just fits today. You may want a new app, a longer holiday video or extra downloads later. There is no single spare-space target that suits every person; the useful question is whether you will be comfortable managing the phone at that capacity.
Compare storage options within the same model and condition so you can see what the extra capacity costs. If the larger version stretches your budget, consider a different model rather than assuming that storage is the only feature worth paying for.
