Buying a refurbished phone: the checklist that matters
A good phone purchase starts with the things you actually need it to do. Before comparing listings, write down your three priorities: perhaps a camera for family photos, a screen that is comfortable to read, and enough storage to avoid another clear-out. That short list makes it easier to judge a refurbished phone on its usefulness.
Compare the exact version
Two listings with the same model name can have different storage capacities, conditions and included accessories. Keep the exact model, storage and condition beside the price when comparing them. Ask about anything the listing does not explain; a familiar model name is not a complete specification.
Separate appearance from everyday performance
Read the individual condition description rather than assuming that a grade means the same thing everywhere. Decide which cosmetic marks would bother you and which would disappear under your usual case. A clean-looking exterior alone does not answer questions about battery condition or previous repairs.
For a pre-owned iPhone, Apple recommends checking battery health, parts and service history where available, and network restrictions. Do not buy an iPhone that remains Activation Locked to a previous owner. Its inspection guide also covers the cameras, buttons, display, speakers and microphone.

Read the aftercare before you need it
Save the listing and your order confirmation. Read the warranty and returns information before ordering so you know how to contact the seller and describe a problem. If something is unclear, a specific question is easier to answer than a general request to confirm that everything is covered.

Your final comparison checklist
Exact model and storage capacity match your needs.
Condition description explains the visible wear you can accept.
Battery and repair information are clear enough for your decision.
Network compatibility and included accessories have been checked.
You know where to find help and the applicable returns information.
When the phone arrives, allow time to inspect it and try your normal daily tasks. Keep packaging and purchase details together while you check it. If you have a concern, describe what happened and contact support rather than guessing at a repair.
